North Carolina, Mars Hill

This is about 20 minutes north west of Asheville and I discovered this great back road that took me to some amazing pastoral scenery.  I really love this part of the Southeast.  If I had some money this is where I would retire.  The mountains are so close but you feel a nice harmony between man and nature.  I did this sketch with the hope of trying to get that great late summer light with the subtle atmospheric color.  It would merit another sit down with some oils or chalk pastels to get more subtle treatment.
