It was brutally cold out (4˚F) so I bundled up and brought 5 color pencils and little sketch book.  This is the only practical way to capture anything in this weather.  It was bright and clear and very beautiful for a winter day but I wish I could have spent more time with more materials to get the nice yellow orange color of the weeping willow.  The snow and the red river reeds also needed more attention.  You can walk the entire river all the way down to the lake and it is just like kayaking but you can stand still at any point to see the river in a different perspective.  The only other event that tops a river walk is ice skating on the lake when the ice is clear and smooth.  Something I managed to do last week, but now everything is covered up in snow making it hard to see the bumps and cracks.  Winter has some draw backs being the days are short and your water colors freeze up, but the snow and sunlight are wonderful to capture if you can handle the freezing temps.
