The landscape guy that comes around trims the cedar hedges so tight that it almost looks fake.  I love his attention to detail as there seems to be no branch out of place.  The snow lands on them and it is almost too good to paint but I did and hopefully another day above freezing I will try to get another sketch done.

Here’s an animation that I’m did based on the Cedar tree on our association beach near Jackson’s Point on Lake Simcoe…

This is the same cedar I painted back in the winter though the shape and colors are a bit different.  Since the early fall allows me to paint on location for a longer period I can get a better representation of the tree, though I tend to like some of the liberties you take when you have to go inside and finish the painting.  The one thing that did change is the orange on the tree are the seedlings that are produced this time of year.  This is why I love revisiting subject matter in nature as it does change from day to day and season to season.

Most of my sketches of Lake Simcoe are looking west towards Jackson’s Pt, but this one is looking east with a wonderful Cedar tree in the foreground.  I often prefer natural landscapes over manicured ones, but this Cedar has been trimmed nicely to show off the interesting trunk shape.  The west view also has several islands in the distance but I decided to focus on this tree for now.  In March I will revisit and see if there is still ice or snow but for now it’s been too cold and wet to use the Ipad and even the watercolors are freezing up too quickly to get anything done on location.
