Lots of dogs to draw and I enjoyed the Great Danes and Huskies, but my favorite was the big fuzzy Sheep Dog!

City Hall, looks like an art deco space ship. I wonder if one day all the creative types will come aboard and it will launch off into the cosmos, leaving Asheville a cultural wasteland.
This is near Vance Square, and I love the activity of people, places and musicians. The long light, makes it an ideal for street artists and musicians to perform. This is the best meeting place and there seems like all type of people have rendezvous here.
Guitarist plays amidst the hustle and bustle. Street people also patronize the location and they are eager to busk for money with less talent. The 4th panel is a Dulcimer player in the Grove Park Arcade. He was listed as a luthier and a cosmic new age spiritual performer. His playing was no doubt celestial and uplifting. His performance was between a drum, piano, and guitar.

The snow has not fully melted but the temps are finally above freezing so I had some time to capture the transition. The colors are still muted and fall like, but the light is much brighter, if that makes any sense.

The landscape guy that comes around trims the cedar hedges so tight that it almost looks fake. I love his attention to detail as there seems to be no branch out of place. The snow lands on them and it is almost too good to paint but I did and hopefully another day above freezing I will try to get another sketch done.

Elmgrove is a great place to visit and to support. I go every Tuesday to get produce and recently have been sketching all the great subject matter. As the season comes to a close, I hope to capture a few more sketches.

The last days of summer and so an attempt to capture the last of the summer light.
A heron who managed to stand still enough for a portrait…
The lake just before sunset…

I got into my kayak and went out for full moon paddle. The weather was perfect and the water was clear of traffic. The moon made it more than bright enough to navigate and I managed to even see a shooting star. It would probably be worth my while to go on a new moon where I can see more stars but virtually impossible to sketch or paint anything without a headlamp. These pics were made with just the dusk and moonlight but I still had to struggle finding the right amount of color and saturation. I took a sharpie with me so I could just ink in the tree line and not worry about washing over it with pigment. It was a great night and I will be sure to get out there for a harvest moon.

I normally just do natural landscapes, but I like the Greek statue at the Briars and will like to go back and use it as a theme for future sketches.

The Black River leads out to lake Simcoe. This view is from the Briar’s golf course bridge. Normally I don’t do much landscapes of a golf course, but this was such a great fall day and the best view of the river. The only other view would be from a canoe…that is still pending. This landscape is rather clean in terms of natural debris and random elements found in more natural settings, so I decided to enhance the sterile and cultivated landscaping that goes with a meticulous kept golf course. You rarely see a stray leaf on the course or surrounding lawns.
