This is probably the last of the days that the temps will be above freezing so I went out to get the last few opportunities. Next week I’ll be back down south. Weather this time of year tends to get very overcast and colors tend to fade and become desaturated. Growing up in the Great Lakes region, the winter can be quite monotonous and you have to really push yourself visually. This is the bridge on the Briar’s golf course and the forest is a lot next to some rental cabins near the 18th fairway. Sometimes it is important to try to capture all types of scenery and some may lack the drama of a sunset or even water, but just getting out and being in the moment you have to find interest and practice technique regardless of the ultimate outcome.

This is no doubt my favorite time of year when the Trillium come up. This winter has been rather cold and brutal, but that has not stopped these wonderful flowers from popping up and blooming on time. I will try to get out and paint them as much as possible before the mosquitos have their way.

It started out cloudy and I was trying to get the mood right, but then the wind blew the clouds away and I had to stop. Trying to draw corn at such a small scale is very challenging, especially if you just want to get an impression of the scene. Knowing how much detail and contrast as not to create too much contrast to the subtle distance elements is a constant challenge.
