One of those rare warm days in late fall.  I usually don’t have these type of opportunities this time of year, but with the short days and a nice mix of clouds and blue sky it was a moment to get out and try to get one more dusk before winter.

Another dusk trip out on the kayak.  This is at approx 7:35pm

It is fun to paint while in the kayak, but when you need a steady hand to keep the horizontal lines straight it’s very tricky and can be frustrating when you are trying to add the delicate final touches.  Nonetheless, it’s a great experience and I love sitting back at night when everything on the water is so calm and a warm breeze hits you.  This will probably be the last of the summer night paddles unless the harvest moon presents another chance, but only if it’s warm as night can be quite cold for both air and water temps.

Sunsets are always the toughest to capture on site as the light diminishes to a point where you have no more references and you end up in the dark.  The first one started and I had to quickly flip the paper over and try to do a more expressive and abstract representation.  At one point, you take it home and use them for future references, but ultimately you can never recreate an experience you get being on site.
